Kendrick School celebrates 140 years of girls’ education!
This year Kendrick School celebrates 140 years of girls’ education. Founded in 1877 in Watlington Street, Reading by an endowment given by John Kendrick, a sixteenth century cloth merchant, Kendrick School is now one of the leading state schools for girls’ education. In 1927, 90 years ago, the school moved to its present site on London Road.
The students, staff and governors wish to celebrate this milestone and a number of events and activities have been organised that will mark the occasion. A book is being published by a former student, Daphne Barnes-Phillips, called ‘Long may our Lion roar’. There will be a birthday party for former students and staff on Sunday 1st October 2017 between 2-5.00pm. In addition, there will be lots of activities in school in September to celebrate the birthday.
We are delighted and honoured that the Mayor, Councillor Mohammed Ayub, has been able to visit Kendrick and officially launch our 140 years’ celebrations . Click here for a write up from a Year 13 student.
