German

The German Department consistently performs well in public examinations. We prepare large numbers of students for the GCSE and AS/A2 examinations.

We place great emphasis on personalised, differentiated learning opportunities.

We aim to use a variety of up-to-date materials to teach well-planned, engaging lessons.

Our regular visits to Germany include a KS3 trip to the Rhineland, a KS4 and 5 visit to the Christmas Market in Aachen and in the 6th Form we also travel to Berlin.

In KS3 and 4 the topics we study include:

  • Describing myself and my family and others.
  • Leisure activities, food and drink, healthy living, daily routine.
  • School, jobs,s pending habits and shopping.
  • Holidays and tourism, local town and environment, life in Germany.

We try to enhance the students' learning by using ICT and a  range of media in the classroom. We also organise practical tasks which the students very much enjoy.

AS/A Level

The Edexcel course includes the following topics : Relationships, youth concerns, leisure, politics, the EU, healthy living, the environment, technology, the developing world, 20th Century German history.

We currently run a work experience exchange with our partner school, the Ceciliengymnasium in Düsseldorf

We also do a study trip to Berlin prior to oral exams.

To prepare for the speaking examination we take the Year 13 students on a residential trip. Most of our AS and A2 students achieve an A or B grade in their examination.
