  • School Council

Following the expansion of the school cohort, the Kendrick School Council now consists of two members from each of the four forms in Years 7-11. Representatives are elected through a democratic voting process within each form at the start of the academic year. Weekly meetings are led by the eight Year 11 students, where we aim to improve and look after our Kendrick community, by discussing ways school life can be enhanced and acting as the student voice of the school.

Meeting agendas are created by the Year 11 students prior to the meeting each week; agenda items may be suggested by any school council representative and by the Deputy Headteacher. We have created a feedback system which enables all members of the School Council to put forward any new ideas or initiatives their forms suggest, which are then placed on the agenda and discussed in the following meeting, allowing for effective communication.

We are discussing and trying to implement many more positive impacts to achieve all our goals for this academic year.

Some progress we have made so far includes:

    • Performing in the annual Lip Sync Battle as part of Fringe Fortnight, to raise money for Berkshire Womens’ Aid.

    • Starting a spreadsheet to improve the balance of assessments for the students, ensuring a healthy school-life balance.

    • Communicating with Chelsea from the canteen and her manager about student views of the canteen, to implement any changes students wish to see.

    • Helping Mr Hodge with organising a Toys for Teens Charity Collection supporting Reading Family Aid, where every form collected donations of toys, books, clothing etc., to be given to people in need during Christmas.

    • Supporting and encouraging donations for the Whitley Food Cupboard, helping provide a lifeline for families who are struggling to eat.

We believe the role of the School Council is to be the bridge between the students and staff of Kendrick, thereby creating a supportive dynamic of mutual respect and awareness in our community. This allows for effective collaboration and decision-making to maintain a positive school environment that fosters individuality, allowing all students to create an impact - and with that, we feel they can truly lead, inspire, and make a difference.
