New Year 7 Information

Yr 7 study skills 2011-10

“My daughter has settled in really well at Kendrick. She is very fond of her form tutor and appreciates all the help given. She would like to say a big thank you to all the staff and the sixth formers who are like her older sisters, always ready to help”

The following information is relevant to students joining Kendrick School in September 2017 ONLY.

Please bring your daughter to Reception (entrance in East Street) between 8.30am and 8.50am.  We would appreciate it if you do not arrive before 8.30am.  Your daughter will then be taken to the main school hall and be allocated to her tutor group with whom she will spend the rest of the morning.

Your daughter should be dressed as she would be for her normal school day, and should bring a pen or pencil with her.  She will also need to bring a mid-morning snack and drink.  Please avoid any products with nuts.

During the morning your daughter will have activities designed to introduce her to her tutor and classmates.  She will also have several “taster” lessons.  These may include a practical lesson so please provide her with an apron or overall (an old shirt will do).

She will be ready to leave at 12.20pm.  Unless you advise us otherwise on the attached slip we will take her back to Reception at 12.20pm where you can collect her.

WEDNESDAY 21st JUNE 2017 6.00pm to 9pm

This is an important information evening which we hope both you and your daughter will be able to attend.

Registration for the evening will start from 6.00pm and there will be a ‘meet and mingle’ session hosted by the Kendrick Parents’ Society (KPS) until 7pm.

The evening will then start promptly at 7pm with a talk in the Hall by the Headteacher, a School Governor and the KPS.

From 8pm to 9pm, parents/carers will be divided into groups and there will be a ‘carousel’ type session with talks from members of staff, including the Headteacher, on various subjects including expectations of students, parental support, day to day life at Kendrick School, internet safety, the admissions process, and curriculum and assessment. There will also be an opportunity for parents/carers to ask questions and to meet the Form Tutors.

During the evening the new students will spend time in their new form group and their house.

You will be able to collect goods purchased online before the evening and details of how to do this will be sent to you in due course.

Due to space and the format of the evening, we would be grateful if you could make other arrangements for siblings wherever possible. Thank you.

Parents and students will be invited for a 15 minute informal meeting on Wednesday 12th July 2017This is an opportunity for both parents and the student to meet with a Year 7 tutor, Head of Year or a senior member of staff. Parents and carers have been sent an email with an online form to complete to indicate their choice of session time. Please contact the school if you have not received this email.

Students should bring along their completed About Me sheet with them to the meeting.

It will not be possible to bring vehicles onto the premises at any point during any of the above events unless you or your daughter has a disability.  In this case please telephone Reception to make special arrangements.  It is important to be aware that you cannot park or stop to drop passengers off in East Street. Please note that pay and display parking operates in the roads in the vicinity of Kendrick School.  The nearest public car parks are at the Oracle Shopping Centre and Queen’s Road.
