The Mathematics Department aims to encourage enjoyment of and enthusiasm for mathematics.
Our aim is that all girls will develop their mathematical potential, that they will be stretched and challenged by their mathematical activities, but also maintain their confidence in their ability to deal with these challenges.
Mathematics lessons take place in a suite of 4 classrooms. Mathematics lessons are lively and varied, including group work, discussion, use of interactive whiteboards, individual whiteboards and plenty of time for individual work.
All girls enter the 6-8 tier for the KS3 tests in Year 9 and all girls enter for Higher Tier GCSE Maths in Year 11.
A teacher is standing next to a girl who is talking to her about the work that is being done.
Many girls opt to study Mathematics at A-level and an increasing number choose to study A-level Further Mathematics also.
Girls participate in the National Mathematics Challenges and enjoy considerable success. We also enter teams for the Team Challenges. Kendrick also runs its own fortnightly Maths Puzzle competition.
Girls have the opportunity to attend a Maths club in Year 7. Some girls are able to attend Mathematics Masterclasses in Year 9. In both Year 10 and Year 12 the girls attend a series of lectures aimed at inspiring and intriguing them with interesting and stimulating mathematical topics.
