Talk on Space Weather for Sixth Form Physicists

Dr Clare Watt from the Meteorology Department at the University of Reading gave a talk on Space Science and Space Weather to Yr 12 Physicists on Monday 6th November 2017.

She explained the aurorae and also the effect that the solar wind can have on satellites and how our life on earth is protected by the magnetosphere, but how we are also vulnerable to space weather.

She also spoke on the many opportunities for future careers in this field that students may not have considered.

As a result of the talk some students have embarked on a competition entry, planning a means to clear space of satellite debris.
