Earth Week 2026 at Kendrick

Kendrick School Earth Week 2026 began with a bang on Monday 8th June, with the Eco Committee sharing sustainability hacks with students and staff through the daily bulletin. Did you know that you can recycle your toiletries through the Boots Recycling Scheme and receive a £5 voucher towards your next £10 purchase? More facts like this were shared throughout the week to encourage sustainability in everyday life and help reduce our throwaway culture and reliance on fast fashion.

On Tuesday, the Eco Committee shared some fascinating environmental facts and related challenges. Did you know that bees can travel up to 3,000 miles in their lifetime and are responsible for pollinating around one-third of the food we eat? Students were encouraged to think about the important role that pollinators play in our ecosystem.

.

On Wednesday, students were invited to read and sign our school's Eco Pledge, written by Thea from the Eco Committee. They added a thumbprint to a tree display in their house colour, with Cedars emerging as the winners: pay a visit to the Kendrick School’s Eco committee board in the main school to see who has signed the Eco pledge and left a thumbprint. Thea also produced a paper version of Eco Bingo, which was handed out to students after an energetic Just Dance session and throughout the week; we are pleased to announce all 50 copies have been handed out, and we are looking forward to seeing the results. Students were also given wildflower seed bombs to plant in their local areas to help attract more bees and other pollinators. Remember to water them regularly, especially if we experience another heatwave!

.

Later in the week, students who had signed up took part in a tote bag decorating activity. Thank you to the Biology Department for lending the fabric pens, helping us to reuse existing resources. Students explored a variety of eco-friendly designs and messages, creating bags that will encourage others to think more sustainably and inspire positive environmental action.

On Friday, the last day of Kendrick Earth Week, students had a gala time making bracelets with donated beads, string and bracelets. A huge thanks to Mr Simmonds, Ms McManus, and Jaskirat (Mrs Kaur's sister-in-law) for their donations, which helped us reduce spending and re-use the resources.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the activities, and a huge well done to the Eco committee members for their hard work in planning and executing the events, spreading the enthusiasm around the sustainability initiatives.
