Year 8 Bushcraft Adventure

In the last week of Term 5, 120 Year 8 students embarked on an unforgettable Bushcraft adventure, enjoying a residential trip packed with challenges, new experiences, and plenty of laughter. Set in a fantastic outdoor environment, students were encouraged to step away from screens, work together, and immerse themselves in the natural world.
Throughout the trip, students took part in a wide range of exciting activities, including archery, axe throwing, knife crafting, first aid training, shelter building, and other outdoor survival challenges. These activities not only taught practical skills but also encouraged teamwork, resilience, creativity, and problem-solving. It became very apparent that the students were developing confidence throughout this trip, while also learning valuable life skills in a fun and supportive environment.
The students were brilliantly supported throughout the week by the Bushcraft team leaders, whose enthusiasm, patience, and expertise helped make the experience so memorable. Their encouragement enabled students to challenge themselves, try new things, and achieve far more than they thought possible.
One of the most rewarding aspects of the trip for staff was seeing some students completely transform over the course of the week. Many stepped out of their comfort zones, discovered new strengths, friendships, and came out of their shells in ways that were wonderful to witness. Away from the routines and pressures of everyday life, students were able to simply enjoy being young people, spending time outdoors, making memories with friends, and embracing every opportunity that came their way.
A particular highlight of the trip was the much-loved Bushcraft's Got Talent. This evening of entertainment gave students the opportunity to showcase their talents, support one another, and celebrate as a year group. Whether performing, cheering from the audience, or simply enjoying the moment, it brought everyone together and strengthened the bonds across the year group.
Of course, I can't finish without mentioning the shower facilities, which are always a talking point on Bushcraft. Although students were regularly offered the chance to freshen up, many chose to fully commit to the authentic outdoor experience instead. Judging by their reluctance, you might have thought the showers were the most challenging activity of the week!
Overall, the Year 8 Bushcraft trip was an incredible success. It provided opportunities for personal growth, friendship, adventure, and unforgettable memories. We are extremely proud of how our students represented the school and embraced every challenge. We are already looking forward to seeing next year's Year 8 students take part in what is sure to be another fantastic experience!
