Bloomsbury Annual Harry Potter Book Night

After school on Thursday, the Kendrick Book Club girls switched their Kendrick uniform for their Hogwarts robes and took part in the Bloomsbury Annual Harry Potter Book Night.

This year’s theme was ‘Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry’, so the Conservatory was transformed into the Great Hall of Hogwarts.

As the students arrived, they were welcomed by Dumbledore herself and invited to let one of the handmade wands ‘choose them’ before taking part in the ‘Sorting Hat’ ceremony.

When all the students were ‘sorted’ and seated, Professor Dumbledore introduced the members of staff for the coming Hogwarts term – Professors Snape, McGonagall and Trelawney (our wonderful year 12 students who run the Book Club, Neha Nagwekar, Ishika Jain and Orla Brown) and then the games commenced!

The first of the challenges was the Bertie Bott’s Jelly Bean challenge – a race against their fellow houses to be the first to remove 40 beans from the bowl…..using chopsticks!  The second was a game of Harry Potter Tabou. It was amusing having the students trying to guess the Harry Potter themed objects or characters whilst the describer tried not to utter those ‘tabou’ words.  And finally their memory and knowledge were put to the test with the Hogwarts-themed tray game and the magically mind-bending quiz. Would you be able to answer questions like: How much did Fred and George Weasley bet on the Quidditch World Cup? Kendrick must have some die-hard Potter fans, because several girls knew the answer to be 37 galleons, 15 sickles and 3 knuts!  Our winner (only dropping 2 points) was Aadya Bhattarai from 7C.  Well done Aadya!

In between the games, students feasted on Harry Potter themed goodies such as Huffle Puffs, Cheesy Broomsticks, Golden Dragon’s Eggs and Owl Droppings and had fun with their friends being photographed in Mr Weasley’s flying Ford Anglia.  Everyone left with a huge smile on their face, their wand, certificate and a small goodie bag with bookmarks, chocolate frogs and of course a handful of Albus Dumbledore’s sherbet lemons.

A huge thank you to all of those girls who attended, their enthusiasm for J.K. Rowling’s wonderful books and characters was clear to see as they threw themselves into the spirit of the occasion making it a magical fun event for everyone involved. Finally, a massive shout out to our sixth formers who help to run these lunchtime clubs and events – without them this extra-curricular fun wouldn’t be possible.
