ADMISSION INTO YEAR 7 IN SEPTEMBER 2024

Proposal:

  • Removal of some postcodes in Priority Area 2 of the Designated Area as detailed above

Consultation Responses:

  • 22 responses were received that supported this change. The feedback included that this was a positive step meaning that Kendrick would be better to serve local needs and reduce the longer travel.
  • 57 responses were received that disagreed with this change. 37 of these responses referred to individual postcode areas or personal circumstances. The feedback included that it was felt that candidates should not be disadvantaged due their address and that some areas did not have the opportunity to apply to a grammar school.  There was also some feedback regarding that standards could drop.
  • Some responses also requested for the changes to be delayed for another year as many pupils and parents have already financially invested in properties which would no longer be in the designated area and in tutoring and preparing students for the admission test.
  • 28 responses did not offer points of objection or support

School Response:
The proposed change to the admission policy for entry in September 2024 was based on the timeframe of, and was carried out in line with the requirements of the Schools Admissions Code 2021 which requires schools to consult for a minimum of 6 weeks before 31st January in the determination year.

  • The proposal was to reduce the designated area to an approximately 10-mile radius around the school to enable Kendrick School to be a more local school.
  • All consultation feedback was read and considered by the School’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Governors and discussed at the Learning and Teaching Governors meeting on Thursday 19th January 2023.
