  • Pride Month at Kendrick: A Rainbow-Filled Recap

June was bursting with colour, joy, and community spirit as we celebrated Pride Month with a jam-packed schedule of events that brought education, creativity, and a whole lot of glitter to our corner of the world. Whether it was belting out power ballads or threading beads in the sunshine, there was a little something for everyone to enjoy.

Week 1: Queer Karaoke Takes the Stage
We kicked off with a mic drop moment—Queer Karaoke lit up the week with legendary tunes and high-energy numbers! Voices soared as the students sang their hearts out to icons like Queen, Sabrina Carpenter, and Chappell Roan. It was the perfect way to launch Pride Month!

Week 2: Pride Scavenger Hunt – Seek, Find, Learn
Things got competitive and educational in equal measure during our Pride Scavenger Hunt. Students and staff raced around solving clues, uncovering inspiring facts about LGBTQ+ trailblazers like Marsha P. Johnson, Sir Ian McKellen, and Barbara Gittings. Who knew learning history could be this thrilling?

Week 3: Crafting Connections – Literally
We slowed things down with a wholesome afternoon on the front lawn, where we made friendship bracelets and key rings. It was a moment of calm, reflection, and genuine connection. Laughter, music, and the occasional tangled string made it a beautifully heartfelt way to celebrate friendship and identity.

Week 4: The Big Pride Bash
We wrapped up Pride Month with a rainbow explosion of joy! Our Pride Event was the ultimate celebration, featuring live music, vibrant stalls and games, dazzling face paint and glitter, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere all around. We were also fortunate to have Chris Page from Reach Out visit, who came along to offer support and share valuable resources for students. The students danced, we laughed, we learned—and we were proud of their support/allyship towards the LGBTQIA+ community.

Pride Month wouldn’t have been the celebration it was without the hard work and heart of our incredible staff, including our Pride Leads Miss Hyde and Mrs Hearn. Thank you to everyone for championing inclusivity, uplifting every voice, and helping create a space where everyone is free to be exactly who they are.

    Happy Pride to all!
