  • Fringe Fortnight Fundraising

In November, the Community Committee, with help from other members of the Kendrick Student Leadership Team, ran a series of creative events as part of Fringe Fortnight to raise money for our two school charities; the Reading Refugee Support Group and Smart Works Reading.

Fringe Fortnight kicked off with a cultural food sale, featuring a range of treats from Nigerian puff-puff and Pakistani pakoras to British flapjacks and South African pancakes. Thank you to all the students and staff who took the time to make these dishes – the food sale alone raised more than £200!

Later in the week, we held a Kendrick Thrift Shop, which raised over £70 while playing a part in Kendrick’s sustainability initiatives by giving second-hand items a new home. It was amazing to see so many items finding a new home, and we hope to have more events like this in the future.

The second week started with an origami session. It was wonderful to see all the students come together and share their creative ideas – a lunchtime activity that was a perfect break from the classrooms.

Our series of events finished on a high note with the much-awaited Lipsync Battle between two student teams full of energy having everyone cheering throughout. A huge well done to the School Council team for their amazing performance and congratulations to KSLT for winning the battle!

Alongside all of these events, we also ran a crochet competition – thank you to everyone who took part; the quality and creativity of entries was astounding, ranging from a gingerbread man to jellyfish and a coin purse. The entries have since all been sold in an auction which raised £117.

Fringe Fortnight was a huge success, not only in raising money for our charities but in bringing our school community together. A big thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to these events – we look forward to organising many more in the future.
