  • Kendrick School Iftar

On Friday the 27th of February, we held our first ever Kendrick Iftar! During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims break their day-long fast with an evening meal called iftar, and we had the honour of hosting our Muslim students in this.

The evening started off with a speech from a special visitor, Mrs Kaur, who talked to us about Sikhism and what her faith means to her. This was followed by a speech from Mrs Mohamed, who spoke to us about her journey in Islam, and about how her faith has grown over the course of her life. Some Muslim sixth form students then spoke about what their faith means to them, touching on the five pillars of Islam and reflecting on the similarities between the Muslim and Sikh faiths.

The adhan, call to prayer, was then played, and we broke our fast with dates, followed by a delicious spread of cultural foods, ranging from biryani and samosas, to shawarma and falafel. Two students then hosted a Ramadan quiz, where students and staff were tested on questions about Ramadan and Islam. Congratulations to the winning teams! We finished off the evening serving desserts such as jalebi and brownies, along with slices of a beautiful 'Kendrick Iftar 2026' cake.

This beautiful event brought together our diverse Kendrick community in learning more about Ramadan and supporting our Muslim students, making them feel valued and celebrated.

A special thank you to all the members of staff who helped set up and run this event, and made the atmosphere such a welcoming and inclusive one. A huge thank-you in particular to Mrs Mohamed for her dedication and attention to detail in heading and organising this event, and making it a memorable and meaningful evening for us all.
