  • Fairtrade Week 2026

During the week of 16th March, we were thrilled to run Fairtrade Week, to raise money for the Fairtrade charity and awareness of what we do in the school on a regular basis. Our role as the Fairtrade Team is to run a stall on Tuesdays during the second break in the servery, where we promote and encourage students to purchase fairtrade products for their personal shopping.

Fairtrade is a charitable organisation and sustainability label, working to make trade fairer for the people who grow our food, by guaranteeing farmers a fair minimum price and protecting them if the markets drop. This initiative was established at Kendrick many years ago, and we were honoured to take the lead and continue this tradition.

We started the week with our annual Fairtrade bake-off where we had lots of incredible bakes donated by talented students to sell at the bake sale at lunchtime. From quiches to cupcakes, it was a difficult decision for Ms Kattirtzi, who joined us as our chief judge.  Huge congratulations to our winner, Aditi in Year 11, for the amazing banana cake. It truly did taste as good as it looked!

On Tuesday, we ran the Fairtrade Stall as usual, with a special challenge of guessing the number of Malteasers in the jar. Well done to our winner for guessing only one away from the 134! Throughout the week, we also sold raffle tickets for the chance to win a grand chocolate hamper. We really appreciate the engagement from both students and staff, and hope the lucky winners enjoy their delicious prizes!

We wrapped up Fairtrade Week by holding our much loved Fairtrade teacher obstacle course and quiz, where we invited teachers to compete in teams to answer quiz questions related to Fairtrade and in particular chocolate, which is one of the main Fairtrade products. Every third question required a team member to complete the laid-out obstacle course and the athleticism of the enthusiastic participants stunned the student crowd. We are proud to announce the winners as Team 1: Mr Curran, Mr Berluti and Mrs Munns, whose speedy answers and affinity for hula-hooping guaranteed them the win. We were glad to see a variety of year groups attending the event, and we hope they found it as entertaining as we did!

Once again, thank you so much for the outstanding contributions from students, for making and buying treats, the enthusiasm on the obstacle course and to the teachers who kindly gave up their time to join in. We are proud to announce that we raised over £200 over the week, and we could not have done this without all your support!  Thank you!!
