    • Climate Change Conference 2022

      Published 24/11/22

On Remembrance Day, the Geography Department took 14 Year 12 pupils to the Reading Schools Model COP27 conference. It was an incredible opportunity to debate with pupils from local schools about global issues relating to climate change.

The event was organised by InterClimate Network with support by Reading Climate Change Partnership and hosted by Reading Borough Council in their council chambers.  Each group was given a country briefing for prior research, so we were able to deliver pre-prepared opening statements. The event was opened by the Mayor of Reading who urged us to take climate action.  Kendrick represented Egypt (the hosts!), India and the USA, and getting into the mindset of these countries emphasised the international severity of the climate crisis.

On Wednesday 9th November, we held House Chess for Year 8 and Year 9 in the school hall. Managing to fill every seat to compete in competitive chess games, Year 8 and Year 9 participated in tantalising matches throughout the lunch break to contribute to their House’s point total. Although not everyone claimed a match, all students were eager to play against their opposition and gave each move their best. Some players won three games for their House, and some didn’t win any, but everyone provided valuable points to the final scores.

    • Remembrance Day Commemoration

      Published 11/11/22

At a whole school assembly this morning, we remembered the service and sacrifice of all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life through the many wars and conflicts.  We remembered the Armed Forces, and their families, from Britain and the Commonwealth, the vital role played by the emergency services and those who lost their lives as a result of conflict or terrorism.

Students in the 6th Form, Darja, Rosie, Janelle and Ellie, spoke about the symbols of Remembrance, the red poppy, but also other poppies that can be and are worn: purple, black and white poppies.

    • Year 10 Trip to Germany 2022

      Published 08/11/22

The MFL trip to Germany could not have been any better. Not only was it a perfect opportunity to practice our speaking skills but also to dive into German culture, especially the cuisine! We were fortunate to have visited beautiful locations like castles, with a lot of walking, but to socialise with our German host families too. This experience was the perfect way for us to step out of our comfort zones even if it meant being corrected by your host family!  We thoroughly enjoyed and will cherish the six days with our teachers and our schӧne coach driver, Chris, who even learnt German with us along the way.

      Published 08/11/22

After waking up in the early hours of the morning, we embarked on a 12-hour journey, which was the start of our week- long adventure. A fascinating part of the journey was the Eurotunnel Le Shuttle which is a really fast train that transported our coach from England to France. Onboard the shuttle, we could get off the coach and stand in a large room whilst it was moving. It took us around half an hour to get from Dover to Calais which was quicker than we expected.
