Kendrick Celebrates The Queen's Platinum Jubilee

The sun shone as Kendrick School celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in style on Friday 8th July. There were many exciting competitions to enter, a picnic lunch to enjoy on the school lawn and fun activity stalls to partake in throughout our extended lunch session.

The stalls were thought up by our tutor groups and were presented to the school for entertainment. We had a ‘Name the Royal Corgi’ Competition where the lucky winner – Anvi from Year 8 correctly guessed Boris and was able to take away her soft toy prize.

One of our Sixth Form tutor groups ran a stall to guess the number of red, white and blue sweets in a jar. The lucky winner was Mary who guessed 350 sweets and got to take home the jar with 347 Jubilee coloured sweets in it!

Huge congratulations to Daisy in Year 8 for being the most knowledgeable on Royal matters and winning the Library’s Jubilee Quiz. Daisy is pictured here with her Jubilee-themed prize.

Our tutor groups entered a Platinum Pudding/Jubilee Cake competition which was judged in the morning and enjoyed by the students at lunchtime. The standard was high, so we had two first place winners – 8EGC and 8MS, two second places – 9JP and 10FL and two third placed winners – 6SJ and 6PK. Well done to all that entered.

Our History department led a competition to find 70 things that represented the changes of the past seven decades. The winners in each year group were as follows: 7HB, 8MS, 9SA, 10FL and 6NW. Congratulations to the winners; we are looking forward to seeing them displayed around the school.

The Art department had an art competition where we were treated to some amazing entries. The talented winner was Nishitha in Year 9. Her entry will be framed and displayed in the school as a permanent Jubilee Legacy. The runners-up were Divija in Year 7 and Evie in Year 9.

A group of Year 9 students put together a wonderful display for us all and they each chose an inspiring woman from the decades of the Queen’s reign to highlight to us all. The display can be found in the library. Well done - Koyenum, Elise, Joanna and Jiya

Some Year 12 students held a debating stall questioning the validity of the monarchy. It led to some interesting discussions.

We had a delightful afternoon, coming together at the end of term to celebrate such a wonderful achievement. There was plenty of cake, red, white and blue flags, fun, laughter and ‘Royalty’ - including a visit from HRH The Queen!
