Senior Maths Challenge & Maths Olympiad for Girls 2023

On Tuesday 3rd October, 70 Year 12 and 25 Year 13 Maths students took part in the Senior Mathematical Challenge run by the UK Maths Trust. This is a 90-minute multiple choice paper featuring stimulating problems designed to make students think carefully and apply their mathematical skills in new ways. We are delighted that this year, 78 students achieved either a Bronze, Silver or Gold certificate.

13 students scored highly enough to qualify for the follow-on rounds; 10 students qualified for the Andrew Jobbings Senior Kangaroo and 3 students qualified for Round 1 of the British Mathematical Olympiad. Congratulations to Emily in 6BK for achieving Best in School in the Kangaroo, and to Arushi in 6JF for achieving Best in School in the Olympiad.

In addition to these competitions, 4 students from Years 12 and 13 sat the Mathematical Olympiad for Girls paper on Wednesday 27th September. This is a 2.5 hour paper consisting of 5 longer questions designed to challenge even the most able mathematicians. We are delighted that all four students scored highly enough to be awarded certificates.

In particular, we would like to offer our congratulations to Bryony in 6SJ. Bryony’s performance in this paper was exceptional, and she has been individually recognised by the UK Maths Trust.  Congratulations Bryony!
