Years 8&9 Charity Week
We have been busy raising money for great causes during our Year 8 and 9 Charity Week. The appointed Charity Representatives from each Year 8 and 9 Form, with the help of Miss Swaine, decided on supporting two charities: SportsAble and the Reading Refugee Support Group.
Charity information:
- Reading Refugee Support Group - refugees and asylum-seekers face many challenges. We are here to help them to be independent, to access their rights and to encourage their self-esteem and confidence.
- SportsAble is a disability sports club providing fun, friendship and opportunities for children and adults in Windsor, Maidenhead and Berkshire.
The week commenced with a much-enjoyed non-school uniform day as well as a bake sale led by 8V. This was followed by another wonderful bake sale on Tuesday organised by 9L which raised £107.50. On Thursday the Kendrick corridors were full of (slightly early!) Christmas cheer as different students across the 2 years took part in busking and sang some Christmas carols.
On Thursday the book stall was launched, where students and staff were able to recycle their used books, whilst others could enjoy buying books at a cheap price.
On Friday 8W organised a bake sale and finally, to top the week off, on Friday lunch time, henna and nail painting booths were set up by 9A and 8T. Throughout the week we had the option to buy and give origami gifts to others as a kind gesture run by 9N and there was also a Sponsored Sports Activity.
Thank you to everyone who took part and donated to the cause and to all the Charity Representatives who contributed ideas and made the week eventful. A special thanks to Miss Swaine for organising the whole charity week and making our ideas possible.
Our final total money raised, which will be split between our two charities is: £1500. Well done everyone!
