Kendrick’s House system was introduced by a past Student Leadership Team and each House is run by a Head of House (a teacher) and 3 House Captains (Sixth Form students on the Student Leadership Team). Throughout the year, there are event-based opportunities for Vice Captains from Year 10 and 11.  The House Captains and Vice Captains are re-elected every Easter.

Everyone at Kendrick is a member of one of three Houses (Palmer, Cedars or Sidmouth) – including the staff – and you can earn house points by being particularly helpful or enthusiastic. Another way of being awarded house points is by participating in House events, such as Sports Day, House Drama, House Music and even House University Challenge and House Scrabble – and if you win, you’ll earn even more points!

If you do something especially outstanding in a house event that catches the eye of your House Captains, Vice House Captains or Heads of House, you may be lucky enough to be awarded a house badge. These are extremely special because you can only win one of these while at Kendrick – so if you do manage to get one, treasure it and wear it every day.

    Testimonial

The House System is at the core of the community here at Kendrick School, allowing creativity, competition and strong relationships to be built between and within the three houses: Palmer, Sidmouth and Cedars. House events are designed to allow every member of Kendrick School to get involved and make friends, from Year 7 to 13.

Having been at Kendrick since Year 7, I can firmly say that the power of the House System is unparalleled in its ability to connect students of all backgrounds and form firm friendships. Some of my closest friendships were formed in Year 7 as a result of House events, like Sports Day, House Mario Kart and a Kendrick staple (and my personal favourite), House Drama. There truly is an event to suit everyone's tastes and even taking part earns your house some points - you could be the difference between 1st and 2nd place in April.  If House events aren't your thing, there are endless other ways to earn points, such as having a strong and positive attitude to learning, participation in school or department-wide competitions and being a stellar student. These tokens will be the colour of your house (green for Palmer, blue for Cedars and yellow for Sidmouth) so be sure to put them in the correct box! The House Captains are able to award house badges to students that play an exceptional part in House events throughout the year, so keep your eye out for events that interest you. And finally, Ms Kattirtzi awards students with red house tokens, worth 5 points, for excellence in an event or other impressive achievements!

    Palmer

Palmer House was named after the Reading-based Huntley & Palmer business entrepreneur. Donning green at special events, you might spot students in this house showing off the Palmer Llama, their mascot. The Palmer House Captains are Livvi, Kitty and Tvishi.

    Cedars

Cedars House was named after Kendrick’s very own Cedars music block and their mascot is the Cedars Seal. You might have seen their House Captains, Avishi, Ameya and Koyenum, wearing blue when they won House Drama in 2025.

    Sidmouth

Sidmouth House was named after the Sidmouth building at the front of Kendrick. Represented by the Sidmouth Squid as their mascot, this house is known for their sporting prowess. House Captains Alisha, Connie and Atika are proud to wear yellow as their house colour.
