  • Racial Literacy

In January 2025, on the Staff Inset Day, staff undertook training on racial literacy as part of our school's inclusion and diversity strategy. The purpose of this training was to learn and know more about different ethnic groups and their experiences.

The first module in the training started with the experiences of the Black Heritage community, followed in the next year by South Asian experiences, then Chinese. Further modules are being planned. The organisation we are working with is Hemisphere Education.  Here is an information video about the training we have all had so far.

The racial literacy training was also introduced to students, which they all embarked on. The presentation they were shown contained a short video clip to explain the scope of the work and background to it. A video version for parents was sent in a separate email communication to help understand what we are doing in school and perhaps start some conversations at home with their children.

    KSL Community DAy 2025

On Wednesday 12th March, Kendrick Student Leaders organised a day designed to celebrate different cultures, backgrounds and traditions.

This was a day to appreciate and learn something new about the world around us, a day for everyone to feel included. With chalk and rangoli drawings, they shared greetings in multiple languages. There was a cultural exhibition about unique aspects of different cultures. For example, festivals, arts and ornaments.

Everyone was given the opportunity to wear clothes from any culture they wanted to learn about or explore. This event was accessible to all. It included diverse music, food and henna stalls. This initiative supported and complemented the school’s work on racial literacy training.
