    In Year 10 we build upon the work done so far on ‘personal discovery’ and ‘self-assessment’, to thinking about becoming better equipped in order to feel more confident about how they portray themselves to potential employers and wider networks. Including job application and interview processes.

    A full presentation of what to expect in Year 10

    Careers Teaching embedded in PSHCE sessions: Term 3 February/March 

    • Introduction to several career-platform websites: Plotr, Future Finder, 16 personalities, NHS Careers, media careers and Adviza websites.
    • Applying for jobs: application forms.
    • Interview skills.
    • 3 Careers Talks from company ambassadors.

    Work Experience Insights Programme: 

    ‘Learning To Work’ (LTW) will provide this programme for Kendrick School, whilst we support the administration and interaction of students with it. LTW will find out from the students what type of placement they would like, and then they will do their best to provide a good match in the provision of placements which will provide our students with a valuable first-hand experience of being in the world of work. . If we are able to run a ‘normal’ WEX programme students will go out to places of work (and perhaps will do some aspects of the Virtual Insights Programme, tbc). If this is the case, then our students may source their own placements, which will then be vetted for Health and Safety and Safeguarding. (The payment requested will remain the same for ‘own’ or ‘sourced’ placements.)

    UNIFROG

    We provide supported access to a tremendously useful careers platform called UNIFROG which allows our students to explore many aspects of their own career journey both within the school setting and in their own time.

    Design Your Future (Careers Fair):  

    Provided by ‘Learning To Work’, it is an interactive virtual event where our students will be able to explore a variety of career paths by having conversations and seeing professional exhibits/presentations from inspirational employees of many prestigious companies from a whole range of career-disciplines. 

    Financial Support

    Finally, we ask you to financially support these events, by making a contribution (amount to be confirmed) via Parentpay. This sum specifically supports the cost of providing the Work Experience aspect of CEIAG for our students. In the current climate, the school appreciates this support more than ever. So, thank you for continuing to support your child and others.

    Sixth Form and A level/College/apprenticeship/University pathways

    In Year 11, we run the ‘Year 11 Post 16 Conference’, which is an action-packed and informative day, where the students hear a Keynote presentation by an invited guest (usually alumni) and the ‘Learning to Work’ charity provides us with several delegated from local businesses who represent key career areas such as; IT, Engineering, Law, Medical professions, Creative Industries etc. The day concludes with a talk about the National Apprenticeship Service and a Q and A session with the Kendrick Student Leaders Team about life in the Sixth Form and their future choices. All this informs our students of their post 16 and post 18 options.

    Year 11 Programme

    As part of our CEIAG (Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance) programme, the Year 11 programme, ‘Runway’ will focus students' attention towards making choices for their next academic steps, which could lead to a suitable set of qualifications and then onto them finding an appropriate and meaningful career path, in their not-too-distant future. Our subject teachers will inform students of career opportunities related to their subject-specific-curriculum in appropriate ways throughout their teaching. 

    Future Focus One-to-One Careers interviews: 

    Students will have a 20-minute one-to-one career conversation with a qualified Careers Advisor from ‘Learning To Work’. This is an opportunity for students to discuss their career plans and aspirations.

    Post 16 Conference: 

    This event is provided by ‘Learning To Work’ and Kendrick School, and it will be an interactive and inspirational day. Students are off timetable for the day, being given time to focus on some of their personal development and career thoughts.

    • The day starts with an inspirational talk from the keynote speaker, who is Kendrick Alumnae.
    • Then students explore their personal traits and develop their personal branding.
    • Next, they meet some career-professionals, and at least one will be a good match with the interests of each individual student (identified from the One-to-One Careers Conversations).
    • In the afternoon, they are informed about a non-university ‘exit route’ from Kendrick: Apprenticeships. 
    • This is followed by a presentation from the Head of Sixth Form about the Kendrick Sixth Form.
    • Finally, the day concludes with a fun and interactive session where the Year 11s meet with the Student Leadership Team (Year 13) and some additional Year 13 students who will represent all the A Level subjects which are available to study at A level here in our Kendrick Sixth Form. The angle of this presentation:  A-levels-from-a-student-perspective, is often helpful to students who find this approach supportive, honest and enlightening.

    Sixth Form Information and Options:

    Students and parents are invited to Kendrick School to explore the course content of the A-level options offered, entry requirements and other helpful information, to help them make informed decisions about their next steps (KS5).
