Kendrick Student Leaders 2021-22

This year we have reorganised, reshaped and renamed our student leadership group. The 18 Kendrick Student Leaders, as they will now be known, make up four separate committees, elected by students and staff, to represent their school. The four committees are: Curriculum and Current Affairs, Student Welfare, Community and House System Committee.

These students undertake specific roles working with younger students in the school organising and supporting inter year and inter house events in school. The KSL has an important role in representing the school, both in school and at out of school events. They are excellent Ambassadors for the school.

Curriculum and Current Affairs Committee

Sanjana, Drishti, Ruth and Zara

The Curriculum and Current Affairs committee are really excited for what this year will bring and how we can enhance the curriculum by investigating barriers to access and creating a year of great opportunities to make students’ Kendrick experience the best it can be. We plan to augment the mentoring system to make it more student-centred as well as create more opportunities for students to share advice, because there is so much we can all learn from each other. Going to Kendrick is about so much more than just doing your subjects; we are really keen to integrate current affairs into the curriculum, because of the vital role it plays in building perspectives and opinions and raising awareness for issues we don’t talk about enough. We are going to implement this through current affairs assemblies once a term on a wide variety of topics, and encourage students to reflect critically and find out more about the topics we introduce to them. We are also very keen to represent Kendrick in events like Open and Admissions Day and share our love for the school.

Student Welfare Committee

Matt, Frances, Sana and Khushi

Community Committee

Mingma, Eliza, Kriti and Anushka

Our committee will endeavour to integrate our community: whether that is within Kendrick, which is primarily defined by the partnership between the students and staff, or the local community in Reading, to which we have a collective responsibility to contribute towards. This year will be pivotal as we are determined to observe a distinct approach. We will soon decide on a local organisation to support as a whole school for this upcoming academic year.  We are also eager to begin reinstating social events for the Lower School and the Sixth Form. Additionally, our committee will be assisting with subject mentoring and outreach activities.  We anticipate resuming the year 5 Homework Club and the Refugee Club. We hope that many of you are enthused by our upcoming plans and are inspired to be proactive in our collaborative efforts.

Cedars House Captains

We’re Geetika and Serena, the Cedars House Captains. Our goal for this year is to bring all the students from across year groups together, through the different activities and events. We hope to see lots of students participating and winning house points!

The House Committee is looking forward to this new year as we hope to launch new events.  Additionally, we plan to resume the traditional activities that were not able to take place last year. The House System at Kendrick plays a big part in school life.  It is beneficial to all students in helping form new friendships as well as providing fun activities for our students with events that are inclusive of all year groups.  Bringing the school together to create valuable memories is what we are all about!  Throughout the year, we plan to be working with our Vice Captains to encourage students in supporting upcoming House events.  We hope that all students across the school are as excited as we are to get involved with the House System this year.  It’s a great opportunity to make friends and try new things, so we hope to see lots of new faces and students participating and as much as possible!

Palmer House Captains

We’re Ana and Aysel, the Palmer House Captains. We are excited to see everyone get involved as much as possible with the events we have planned for this year. There will be something for everyone to join in with. Hopefully, we can keep up the winning streak by winning the House Cup for a second year in a row - let’s go Palmer Llamas!

We’re Lucy and Alice, the Sidmouth House Captains. We are so excited for everyone to get involved in this House Year and hope to see as many people participating as possible. Our aim is to make sure everyone has fun and tries something new as well as showing their House spirit.
