Our Expansion

May 2019

Dear Parents/Carers, Neighbours and Other Stakeholders

Kendrick School – Expansion Plans

In November 2018, Kendrick School was informed by the Department for Education (DfE) that we were successful in our Selective School Expansion Fund (SSEF) application. This will enable us to increase our student numbers starting 2020 in Year 7, extend and improve our facilities, as well as, begin to make Kendrick a school that more local and disadvantaged students will be able to access.

To accommodate the extra students we need to build extra classrooms and additional canteen space. As a stakeholder we would like to inform you of our building plans and invite you to submit your comments and questions.

The plans can be viewed at our Reception in East Street between 8am and 5pm and comments and questions can be submitted to admin@kendrick.reading.sch.uk by Friday 7th June 2019. Please note that access to the plans during half term (Monday 27th May to Friday 31st May) will be limited. We apologise for the short notice and turnaround, however, it is only now that the plans have been available for us to share.

As part of the application submission, we are obliged to carry out a travel survey with our staff and students which will be shared with the Highways Department as part of the planning process.

We anticipate that the building work will begin in October 2019 and be completed by the summer of 2020. The building work will be undertaken by the Darwin Group and the architects are Baily Garner. We will be updating our website regularly with the building progress.

This is an exciting and significant strategic development for Kendrick School which will consolidate and ensure Kendrick’s future standing and contribution to education in Reading.

Kind regards

Ms Christine Kattirtzi
